Sculpture I work in a variety of media including metal, ceramic, and everyday materials. My work is related by the sense of irony in each piece. In my metal work I'm fascinated with the challenge of cold joining. There is little or no soldering so wire and hinges play a huge role in joining pieces of metal. Intricate designs are also apparent in my work which can include sawing precise imagery or even etching into the metal to produce surface texture. I also enjoy low relief sculpture pieces. Formally I challenge the 2-dimensional surface by combining real materals with painted objects. Thus, only part of the surface is 3-dimensional while the whole surface appears real. Women's Shoe Paintings I am passionate about focusing on the theme of womanhood. I'm interested in depicting several aspects of womanhood including specific moments, items, moods and narratives. In this series I have taken the motif of a woman's shoe to create an overall mood and story related to womanhood. View now

Femininity Jewelry Series This jewelry series is an extension of my Shoe series and is related simply by my response to shapes. I'm interested in what shapes women are drawn to and what objects they see in the abstract shapes. It continues my investigation on womanhood and the series simply celebrates femininity. View now

Various Paintings My paintings include a variety of styles due to my growth as an artist. However, the overall sense of irony and whimsy is still present in my work along with the themes of man vs. nature and womanhood. Works on Paper I enjoy creating only 2-d work but feel in the future it will enhance my sculpture. I've always worked with a variety of materials in my drawings and enjoy the printmaking process. I've done etchings, linoleum block prints, monoprints and silk screening. With my investigation on womanhood I created a series of female study drawings. The vulnerability of the female body in its raw form through gesture and body language provides insight on personality and classic beauty. View now

Public Art: Reflecting on a River From 2000-2003 I worked on a project called "Reflecting on a River" as Catharine Magel's main assistant. The project was part of the Confluence Greenway plan to beautify recreation areas in the St. Louis region. The tile mural is installed on a floodwall along the Riverfront Trail facing the Mississippi River and spans roughly 250 feet. The design is a timeline of the animals found in the river. It begins with single celled organisms and flows into small creatures, fish, and finally birds. The whole project was a community affair. I began as an intern and quickly recruited additional art students to help. We took part in outreach opportunities with several schools and nursing homes. The children and elderly created fish and birds for the mural. The outreach opportunities were very rewarding for everyone involved. People from the Americorp helped us artists in the studio. The installation was done with the Tile and Marble Setters Union #18. Many people passing by on the trail stopped to admire the project as the installation progressed. This project is a big influence on my future aspirations as an artist. I am looking forward to focusing on public art projects of my own in the future. View now
